Becoming….
What Even Is Becoming?
Becoming.. what does that even look like? What does that even mean? In a world that when we hear “becoming” our mind instantly goes into superficial things or things that the eyes can see, or what we can obtain by human strength but what about the internal, the soul? What does becoming look like internally? What does the process for that actually looks like?
When Becoming Feels Like Striving
Well, I can tell you there is a continuous journey until the day that you are no more, Until the day you meet the Beloved Heavenly Father. There is always a work to be done within us, but sometimes we can get obsessed in doing work for us to reach this sometimes what seem like unattainable place (far reached) version of ourselves. Even versions of others that we try to copy off of, sometimes truly I wish people had a copyright on them then maybe it will stop people from wanting to duplicate others and just be themselves maybe just maybe that would fix people from feeling broken, never enough, never satisfied, always feeling like they need to reach to another level and just instead LIVE!
The Trap of Timelines & Comparison
Sigh... I don’t mean that reaching for more is bad or anything but I question our obsession with it that sometimes we can get so overwhelmed, so time stamped that we don’t even enjoy the present moment. We don’t even know how to live in the present time, what we tend to do is take the past pains, the past brokenness, the past disappointments, and sometimes even what people have spoken over us or even the desire to want to show off or prove a point that we are doing better then how we were when they last saw us that we feel stressed to always evolve. But never really take the time to celebrate our now. What if at that place of mess that instead of you looking at it as just a broken image just a messy place, what if you pick out the good from it? What if you see it through a different picture or should I say a different person’s point of view. Hmm… the reason I say that is because the scripture says in Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. But I think we fail to understand that concept that we are His wonderful works. Maybe the question you should ask yourself is what happened? What made you think Otherwise? What makes you think you’re never enough at the present you because God doesn’t see it that way. God knows the final picture, He knows the next version of you the more involved you but He never rejected the present you either, He accepted you rather that is.
Becoming Starts with Surrender
So becoming, yes! Evolving, yes! But if it is from a place of envy, jealousy, striving, brokenness then NO! Now if its from a place of wholeness, a place of confidence, a place of knowing who you are and WHOSE you are then absolutely! Because confidence shouldn’t be entirely of yourself instead confidence should be in the One that is within us (God) who makes it possible for us to obtain a more evolved version of ourselves. However, when there is human efforts involved without submission to God and not allowing the workings of the Holy Spirit, then it can become wearisome, overwhelming, and prideful. Oh did I mention prideful, chile?! Many times when we do that what we end up doing is taking in the glory saying that it is ourselves that got us to where we are now. Yet it was never meant to be that way, submission is the start of becoming, that is truly the best way. When we submit to the Potter (God) and become His clay, we can then go through the sculpting, mending and refining to get to the end result of perfectionism in the eyes of the Beholder, which is God Himself the only One that truly is perfect. What we don’t notice is God as the Potter is thy Artist that rejoices in the beginning stages, and also takes delight at the start of the project and during there of.
Why We Skip the Process (And Why We Shouldn’t)
We ourselves find it pretty hard too many times to see it that way, we find it hard to celebrate ourselves, congratulate ourselves in the small wins because we didn’t reach that big milestone. Yet, many times its a version we try become that we don’t always try to go through all the stages to truly obtain. Here’s what I mean by that… Let’s say for instance there’s a person, and they decided they want to become a bodybuilder and they gave themselves several months to obtain that goal, but never truly enjoyed the process getting there. Dieting changes have to be made yet instead they decided they rather take shortcuts to reach their end goal. They begin to start ask themself how can I obtain the body mass that I want without doing so much work because I have a timeline to meet... So, sometimes what they will do is cut out meals, do extreme dieting, neglect sleep, and take performance enhancement pills thus to appease themselves and others, but inside they are hurting. Why is that, because they never took the time to enjoy the journey. They just wanted to make it to the finish line. so let’s change that, what if you make small goals to that big dream and congratulate yourself on the way and not just wait until you get to that big goal but rejoice at every small step? You notice when a baby takes their first stop we tend to rejoice and get very elated. We don’t wait until they start running. We rejoice even when they fall because they get up and they try again even when they bump their knees sometimes because along the way, what do they do? They keep trying, they keep moving. As the scriptures says in Ecclesiastes 9:11 I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. There was different timelines of children lives, there were stages of growth in their lives for they to go through to reach new developments. From newborn to toddler from toddler to child from child to preteen from preteen to teenager from teenager to adult. But they were stages at each point, stages of celebration for each season and each timeline. What if we looked at our becoming like us getting older? I wonder if we would enjoy each milestone better and learn to appreciate each stage more?
Celebrate Your Small Steps (Even the Messy Ones)
So becoming yes that I am, sis becoming yes that you are sis but without God you can never become the complete picture that you were meant to be. So here’s some homework to making smaller goals, but still dreaming big and making goals for each season. Submit every season and every goal to God and celebrate yourself while going through them. Plus very much celebrating the working that God is doing in you. Because even in the seasons of pruning, it’s a time of celebration because there’s something that’s being taken out for something good to be produced so I say to you Daughter congratulations from where you are now. God is happy to see you start (Zechariah 4:10). I say to you run your race and not the race of another. Don’t think you have to catch up with someone else. You just need to run the race that was marked out for you (Hebrews 12:1). Enjoy the day, the moment, the month of the year, wherever you are in your life right now.
